One tree.

one tree in the midst of many,
with leaves as green as any

one tree felt the wind’s breath
one tree thought to look left

and see the wind come rolling in
…but all the others laughed at him.

they called him deaf, they called him blind
they said he would never be one of their kind.

and he almost fell silent.

one tree stood alone
--the wind caressing his branches—
one tree took the wind as its own
and while the others stood motionless
the one tree danced as if it knew..

The author's comments:
i was walking on my land, feeling the wind on my skin. i noticed one tree swaying in the wind, but all others near him were upright and motionless.
