"All that we see or seem, is but a dream within a dream."
"Just because her eyes don't tear doesn't mean her heart doesn't cry. And just because she comes off strong, doesn't mean there's nothing wrong."

The familiar ache in my jaw told me I was caught again.
The light seemed to be everlasting as I glided across the surface of the dusty pound.
Tainted with red, it believed I was a goner.
My bulging eyes looked back at my wavering home, and I knew this was it.

Her eyes watched me curiously, specks of gold glittering in the blistering sun.
I started back curiously, as I saw what looked like...
It looked like there was sympathy in her eyes.

She looked at me, as if she was the same.
We were one,
in heart,
and in sea.

My gills continued to call for air, and the silver hook pulled from my cheek.
Flying into the air, my sou flew out of my swollen body.
Above the surface, her heart shaped face smiled down at me.

The sand was a casket around me, smothering me with every stroke.
As my limp body settled into the brush, I smiled.
I have fought my last fight,
and that made me smile.
When I died,
I smiled.

This was inspired by "The Fish" Elizabeth Bishop. I want people to be able to look back on their life, and smile. That is why I made the fish die in the end.
