i am

April 8, 2008
By Alyson Miller, Kernersville, NC

i am…

A trembling child on her first day of school,
Who crouches in the corner, and observes the others.
No one knows her,
Just like I do not know myself.

i am…

Someone’s abandoned toy,
It is trapped under the toy chest.
Cast carelessly aside- out of place,
Kind of like me.

i am…

One elderly person who is dying,
Forever weak.

i am…

The bare fruit tree,
Having no leaves to shelter me.
Exposed to the world.

i am…

Praying for a turning point,
A minor change in pace.
I long to be consoled,
Nothing will ever help.
