I often hop home
over stepping stones that lie
behind the big power plant
past the maze of wispy golden strands of
tall, dry grass.
Alone, all alone
with mud-splattered jeans
and into half-destroyed forests
where the sky hangs low beside the trees
and orange leaves never seem to fall.
They hang on despite every breath
of autumn's wind.
