Procrastination

I arrived home from school and sat on a stool,
And there I began to think,
Should I start the various work I received,
Or should I fix myself drink?

Now that I think of it I’m pretty thirsty,
And I want to try something new,
I know this drink will help me think,
‘Cause I know I have work to do.

I mixed some fruits, some soda, and punch,
And there I began to think,
Maybe I should make a sandwich to eat,
So that something can compliment the drink.

Now that I think of it I didn’t have lunch today,
And my brain requires food too,
I have to assemble something very quickly,
‘Cause I know I have work to do.

So I took some meats and potato bread,
And there I began to think,
Turkey? Salami? Or maybe pastrami?
Or something as crafty as the drink?

Now that I think of it this drink is unique,
And it deserves an identical chew,
No time to think! I put on all the meats,
‘Cause I know I have work to do.

I devoured the food and drank the mix,
And there I began to think,
All of these carbs could make me fat,
And my self-esteem would shrink.

So I went outside and began to run,
And my friends I ran into,
They invited me but I had to refuse,
‘Cause I know I had work to do.

I turned around and walked away,
And there I began to think,
It’s still afternoon and I could use some fun,
So that all my stress will sink.

Once more I turned and called my friends,
And I asked them what was new,
They were going to the movies but I shouldn’t,
‘Cause I know I have work to do.

They stood in silence awaiting approval,
And there I began to think,
Movies release stress so I quickly agreed,
And onward we moved in sync.

When the movie was done we walked back home,
And the sky was turning dark blue,
The moment I noticed I started to run,
‘Cause I know I have work to do.

They called me back and told me it was dinner,
And there I began to think,
If they wanted to eat then we should try going out
To the restaurant near the rink.

So they agreed and we stuffed our faces,
Until all of our stomachs grew,
Now it was night and I ran in fright,
‘Cause I know I have work to do.

I ran through my door and dashed to my room,
And there I began to think,
What now should I do? I wasted such time,
From the dinner back to the drink!

I took the work out and glanced at the clock,
And saw that it was ten ‘O’ two,
I look at my papers and sighed with regret,
‘Cause I know I have work to do.
