I don’t like it much
when every day I wake
I’m an in inch taller,
there’s so much at stake,
I can’t get a break,
coffee cannot make this falter

My parents say, Grow!
But inside im saying, No!
As long as I’m wearing dad’s genes,
It comes very natural to me

I’m the carrot among the grapes,
now there are no escapes,
I feel trapped forever,
there is no hope whatsoever

When I get old
I’m told
I will enjoy this fault,
no reaching for cups,
or spice cabinet salt

In truth,
my mom enjoys it most,
because when she can’t reach,
she uses my youth.
