The Judge's Gavel

May 1, 2008
By Scott Toebe, Wayne, PA

The judge's gavel brings about
A cold silence.
Why am I here?
What did I do?
No turning back now.
I did not commit
The Crime.
I'm innocent!
I swear!
These words mean nothing.
They stand hollow like a dead tree,
Ready to fall.
No time passes,
No transition.
Strapped in the electric chair.
A miscalculation,
A mistake.
No turning back now.
