Breaking the Mask

To be politically correct
is to have a curse
thrust upon you;

never saying anything you mean,
or meaning anything you say.

to never offend anyone
is a dream;

by striving to please
others,
I pile mountains
of stress upon
myself.

To be politically correct
is to wear a mask—
forever happy
outside,
pay no heed
to the real face
within.

Does it make a difference?
to be politically correct?
twisted words come back
to bite you in the butt—
or should I say,
your posterior end.

don’t tell me to be
politically correct.
it’s just an excuse.
run away
from the offense,
the problem disappears.

To be politically correct
is to be trapped
in a box—
too blind to see
that if the mask
is removed,
there is a way
out.
