The Mouse
‘Twas the night before Thanksgiving, when all through the house
Everybody was running, running after the mouse.
The children were scampering with buckets in hand
Chasing the poor mouse all over the land.
The girls were squealing and jumping about,
When all of a sudden someone gave a great shout.
“I got him! I got him!” the little boy screamed.
And his chubby face glowed and his little eyes gleamed.
What happened next, no one ever expected,
Something that no one could have ever detected.
The little boy picked up the mouse with great care
And put it in Grandma Annie’s gray hair.
And poor little granny started jumping around
And she made such a noise everyone heard the sound.
She swatted and swung at the poor little thing.
And that’s how Grandma Annie ended up in a sling.
