In Glorious Times

December 1, 2011

Obliteration Untold!
Mayhem raining down uncontrolled!
Totaled in these skinless swine,
Modeling themselves as the newly divine,
For in this Time, Death is our almighty sign.

Shadows of a skeletal stag,
A cry risen, a fire streaked flag,
Crooked beech, in twisted revels
Summoning forth our ancestor's devils.
In ashes they shall reign,
Building thrones from the endless slain.
Before these Glorious Times.

The beasts writhe, and gnash their teeth,
As the life falls from the greenless wreath.
Windless willow be our guide,
Stay our hand, take our side,
Help us to these Glorious Times.

The chosen home, now they lie in peace,
Yet elms reach where ashes roam.
Clacking bones of a skeletal stag doth cease,
Tale told only in darkest tome,
And fade from these Glorious Times.

That which doth sleepth, let sleepth,
And where ashes lay, doth weep.
Fallen few, stay not forever of dust,
Assemble thyself, rise thou must,
And bask in the splendor of these Glorious Times!

Ashen woad and shadowed grove,
Through the earliest places,
Trek to the newest of stars, and thou shalt findest
A darkness live again, for the light doth wane.

Beholder of our Glorious Time,
Where ashes do lay, hafted in twain,
They ascend, out of their days,
Cavernous maw and sightless gaze.
They ignite the darkest sky,
And cast the pigs forth from their sty.
Atone thy sin, and bask in these Glorious Times.

Brilliant elm, our forefather's pride,
Climb forth from the grave, and divide!
For our time is coming, in tentative spaces
Dressed in wilting laces,
A hymn to our Glorious Times.

From Man's first step through greatest stain,
Bring us mayhem, malicious force.
For glory, power, or greater gain,
Men wail and curse destiny's course.
Now rise! Out of thy deathly bed,
Fathers of a Time, Lords of an Age,
With groaning bones and countless dead!
Bring us to an end, bathed in rage!
And end these Glorious Times.

Well...I want to comment...but there's really no point since you already know what I'm going to say :P

Wonderful, wonderful work, as always! You just use all the different devices so easily, and I absolutely adore this very sophisticated, story-telling, Shakespearan voice.

Of course U2! You are more than welcome to any of my poetry, so long as I get to read the response! I can only wonder what you could reply to "In Glorious Times" with...

I have a favor to ask!! In my Creative Publications class, we get to share our favorite poem and write a response to it-- can I write about this one? Pleasey- please-please?

Thanks for the read! I'm glad you liked the poem, especially after I read it and went, "Eh," at it. The enthusiasm is appreciated, and I hope you enjoy the rest of my work as much as you enjoyed this.

"If there is a will, there's a way"- Theodore Hertzel

my first thought of this was the revolutionary war, which i am currently studying

my second was how descriptive and talented and beautiful your writing is

the only bad thing with the poem is the jelousy its causing other people wish they could write like this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

She wants to die. She wants to disappear, to be remembered no more. She wants so terribly to be forgotten, all her mistakes, all her failures, everything. Her name to be wiped free from all record of existence. Because is it really existing when you’ve got nothing to show for your life?

favorited! love this! sooo jealous, i wish i could write like this!! :)

I'm glad you enjoyed the piece Swift. ^_^ I agree that it takes a few reads to get your mind completely wrapped around it, but in the end I think everybody enjoys the message they get from it.

I love this piece, It really well written. I had to read it twice to fully understand what it meant or rather my definition of what It meant but amazing work...keep writing.

Good guess! You were pretty close, but as you said, the meaning varies from reader to reader, and from one read to the next. I won't explain it, because I like hearing everybody's comments on what it means to them.

Thanks for reading Night! I'm glad that you enjoyed reading it. And you put it on your favorites list?! You're making me blush... As for me being the Davinci of writing... I'm certain there are better ones out there. ^_^

Life is so ironic to understand fully, it takes sadness to know what is happiness. noise to distinguish silent and a broken heart to find true love.

Ofcourse if you read it again I got something totally different...kinda like what happens when you read the Bible...You can read the same verse over and over and over and git something different everytime!!!I like that though....

Well the tiltle kinda gave it away....but I think it means Everything looks like it is going good but it really isn't...kinda like when Mark Twain described the golden age as the Gilded Age....because it looks like things are improving but really people are going into more debt than ever!!!! Thats what I got anyway....
