Imperfect Paradise

I remember once, on a cruise
through the Caribbean, a
memorable afternoon on a
remote island.

The powerful blue waves
crashed against the steel siding
of the massive cruise ship.

Small boats delivered
passengers dozen by dozen
to the white, sandy beaches.

Exotic birds soared
overhead while scanning
the area for easy meals.

A peaceful waterfall
crept over the vast rock
formation atop the island.

Beautiful vegetation and
unique wildlife covered every
square inch of the land mass.

So why were the inhabitants
living in small, unstable huts?

I shook my head and
slowly walked away.
