Newton declared he succeeded
Because he stood on the shoulders of giants
He builds on their success, he said
Soon the future would build on his

Because there is no limit.

Their past achievements can only help us,
Towards constant progress.

But with that, I disagree
What if there is a limit?

My attempts seem to be unnoticeable specks
Against the old renowned classics
They used up every idea
Every creative thread
And left us with nothing

My creations only seem to be repetitions
Of their contraptions
Every brainstorm can somehow be traced back

Yes, there is a limit to originality
Because everything original has already originated
How? I demand. Why?
Is it because I compare literature to science?

For we still study, interpret, analyze, admire Shakespeare, Frost, Dickens
Endlessly
They are permanently etched as the greatest writers
Ever seen; perhaps ever will be seen.
But Newton was followed by Curie, who was followed by Einstein, who was followed by Pauli
But still endlessly
They remain to be followed
