Yellow Rose

June 26, 2008
By Shelby Thomas, Rockport, ME

Looking around
Dead leaves and frozen ground
Bending down
Cold metal crumbling in all directions
With fingers too small
I grip your hand
Take me from this horror
Save me to the time
Of rainbows and butterflies

In the yellow rose
I still see
A portal leading to the time
When blood was shed
And tears were spent

Please bring me back
A token I left there
Petals now shriveled and darkened with age
Clasped underground
In stiff numb hands
The skin now matched the flower
Take me from this horror
Save me to the time
Of rainbows and butterflies

In the yellow rose
I still see
A portal leading to the time
When blood was shed
And tears were spent
