Safe Haven

January 23, 2008
By Megan Kirschling, West Deptford, NJ

My nails dig into my dads arm
My head is spinning uncontrollably
Pain lurks around every corner
Weaker and weaker
Each step harder to take
The elevator drops me off into a nightmare
My imagination races
All alone, like a limp rag doll
I try to block out the surroundings
I lean my head on my dad’s shoulder
My eyelids refuse to close
I’m exposed to my surroundings
Step after step
Deep breathe after deep breathe
I make it to my own little safe haven
Next to my mom in the hospital bed
