Chair By The Door
When I look up
and I see you are not there
 it hurts more than when
 George pinches my arm
 turning my skin red and
 puffy, like sunburn.

 Do you remember?
That glassy night in the field so
green, even in the dark it shone
and the stars, oh yes, the stars,
millions, millions, filled the skies and our eyes
 Two together, one hand

When I see your empty chair
 by the door
 my heart breaks
 but my eyes see you
 forever.
