The Song of the Iris

June 16, 2008
By Anonymous

I have seen death
Nestled among the dank earth,
I have pushed my limbs upward
Unfurling my gaudy brightness to the night air

I have known the darkness of the night
Worms slithering past my bound roots

Helpless

I have died
Not your three days,
But six months,
Listening to the whispers of the dead

I have known the sweetness of birth,
And rebirth
I have woven my blooms in Persephone's hair

I have seen rebirth.
