the picture

Pictures never truly reflect
our past lives or deepest regrets
just fake emotions caught by frame
and not the things we put to shame
when I saw us posed in bright red flannel
hanging high above the mantle
I wondered the cause of my grin
recalling the pain within
and I wished so much to become like her
to finally make the perfect picture
