POWER.
HIS VOICE CARRIED THROUGH THE CROWD.
HATE.
DISTINGUISHABLE IN EVERY SOUND.
AS HE PREACHED
THE LISTENERS BECAME ENCHANTED, HYPNOTIZED.
PULLED DOWN INTO THE WHIRLPOOL
OF HIS WORDS

AFTER THE END OF THE SPEECH
ALL RAISED THEIR ARMS IN SALUTE
NOT KNOWING, NOT THINKING
OF WHAT THEY WERE SAYING
STILL CONFUSED, TAKEN IN BY HIS MIGHTY WORDS
FOR HIS WORDS WERE POWER, HIS WORDS WERE TEETH
SWAYING ANY OPINION WHO LISTENED IN SECONDS
HE COMMANDED, INSTRUCTED FOR HATE, FOR WAR
AND THEY ALL FOLLOWED DUTIFULLY LIKE SHEEP
TO THEIR ULTIMATE DOOM

AS ALL ARMS CAME UP
ONLY TWO WORDS WERE DISCERNIBLE
AS ALL THE CROWD SPOKE,
“HAIL, HITLER”

The author's comments:
This is one of my favorite pieces I have ever written. When I was coming up with this piece, I found myself trying to find something deep to write about. One of the first things that popped into my head was the Holocaust. To me, it represents a horrible time in human history where mankind was driven to its worst and serves as a very passionate example for "deep" writing. Hope you enjoy!
