The moon is high peering at me.
The stars illuminate the somber sky,
Windows of heaven giving all in awe a glimpse of their glory.
An owl hoots in the distance as if to inquire for my introduction.
I sit and listen to the wind chat and prattle.
It blows through the ears of the trees,
Exchanging secrets and thoughts.
The flowers dance in the meadow,
A ballroom step.
Each moving rhythmically,
One, two, one two.
Here I sit amongst this performance
Of dandelions and whistling wind.
My eyes grow weary as I listen to the melody play its way through me,
Soothing my soul,
Burdening my eyelids.
“Shhhh … sleep.”
I awaken in the midst of a traffic jam.
The car horns blare like sirens of dire urgency.
People parade on the sidewalk.
They weave in and out of one another like the intricate knitted work of my nana.
Flashing lights and signs entice many as they whisper tempting thoughts.
Here I am world, I think to myself
As I realize I am simply another mass of particles taking up space.

The skyscrapers tower over me
Causing an eerie shadow that questions my presence.
And then I see it.
Through the slots of the passing people, a tiny flower in an abandoned lot.
Her arms stretch out to the sun,
An infant to its mother.
Her beauty minute, yet unquestionable.
But despite this splendor present in all the chaos
She goes unnoticed.
In this world where iPods are a must,
Being beautiful and flawless are the goals.
True beauty is easily missed
Although it is found in the most common of places.
It is found in the face of a friend,
Through the caress of a loving mother,
In the flowers that greet the world each morning,
In every breath and moment of each day,
If you look close enough.
