TIMES OF THE US

By
AFRICAN NATIVES THAT HUNTED BY NIGHT
WERE CAPTURED AS SLAVES
AND SENT IN TO “FIGHT” A WHITE MAN’S BATTLE OF GROWING CORN AND TENDING CROPS
THEY VIGOROUSLY PURGED THE COTTON OUT OF THEIR MASTER’S LOT.

AS TIME WENT BY
WARS HAD BEGUN
SLAVES WEREN’T FREED
BUT SERVED AS SOME
OF THE ONES WHO LOST LIFE,
THEY FOUND IT AGAIN, BUT AT ANOTHER PRICE.
THE PRICE OF SEPARATION AND THE PRICE OF GREED
MOTHERS, BROTHERS, FATHERS, INDEED!

SLAVES WERE ONE OF THE BIG SYMBOLS OF THE SOUTH
SUCH A SYMBOL, WITHOUT CORRECT SPEECH OR WORD OF MOUTH.

TIME AFTER TIME
WAR AFTER WAR
TIME STOOD STILL AS THEIR BACKS STILL BORE
THE CROPS OF DEATH AS THEY WOULD CALL
THOUGHTS WOULD RACE AS THEY THOUGHT OF BURNIING THEM ALL

UP IN THE NORTH, SLAVES WEREN’T SLAVES
BUT SLAVES ARE BLACKS WITH DEBTS ALL PAID. THEY OWED NOTHIN TO LIFE
BUT STILL HAD NO RIGHTS.
NO RIGHTS TO VOTE
NO RIGHTS TO TRY TO LIVE FREE AND NEVER SPEAK TO A WHITE MAN PASING BY
OR THEY WOULD DIE A ENDLESS DEATH
MURDERERD TO THE END AND TO THE VERY LAST BREATH

ON THE SOUTHERN FRONT WAS BRITAINS HAND
TO TAKE NEW ORLEANS WITHIN THE MOMENT AND EVERY MAN
THE WHITE MANS PROMISE OF FREEDOM AT HEART
LEFT THE SLAVES STILL COLD IN THE DARK
THEY FOUGHT WITH THE POWER AND THE FORCE OF MAN
AMERICA HAD THE UPPER HAND
THE WON THE WAR
WON THE FIGHT
SLAVES WERE STILL AS DARK, AS DARK AS NIGHT.

THE WAR OF NEW ORLEANS AND 1812 WAS OVER
MANY WERE DEAD
MANY WERE LOVERS
EXCEPT THE SLAVES, MOST THEIR BODIES HAD NO HEAD
NO ONE CARED
BECAUSE THEY WERE PROPERTY
WHO WOULD DARE?

COTTON, TOBACCO, CORN AND WEEDS
ALL WERE GROWN, WITH ALL THE NEED OF
SLAVES…….
