Where I’m from sounds like the trill of songbirds,
Basking in the twinkling limelight of their stage,
Gorgeously crooning and twirling their words
Embracing their script, having memorized each page.
Like the rustle of wings eager to perform,
Like the bustle of crowds beginning to swarm.
The enchanting echoes of belted, musical magic,
Rippling through the crowd, either comedic or tragic

Where I’m from tastes like cough drops and honey,
Sizzling in the pit of my parched throat,
The water, then feeling brisk and runny,
Having executed a perfect note.
Like Thanksgiving Turkey, all burnt and old,
Deeply overcooked and teeming with mold.
Yet still juicy with the bond of family affection and bond,
All tremendously clashing yet still alike,
Like lilies gliding through the same pond,
From cousin-dog Barney to old Uncle Mike.

Where I’m from looks like the one and only color pink,
In all of its glamorous gleam and fabulous fluff,
The blazing glint my eyes reflect off an amazed wink,
No matter the shrill nerves, I can never get enough!
Like a princess with glistening makeup, caked from head to toe
Those butterflies fluttering, oh, I just can not wait to go!
Jeweled costumes, crowns, and capes, irritating shoes and masks,
Restlessly waiting in the cramped crannies of backstage,
Ready to radiate through that limelight in which I bask
Adrenaline pulsing, for I’m still cooped up and caged!

Where I’m from smells like a lovely, sweet rose,
Freshly picked at the bud of pleasant, Spring bloom,
The whiff of my vibrantly colored toes,
Sending wafts of their polish throughout my room.
Like the intoxicating fragrance of perfume,
Calm coconut or velvety vanilla body lotion,
Swirling around on my skin, all bubbly and loosy-goosy,
Pitter-patter goes my heart, for it is now set in motion!

Where I’m from feels like a warm, cozy quilt,
Spun with the tenderness of family and friends,
Able to heal any sorrow or guilt,
Through the gracious compassion of the thread each lends,
Like the silky glow of snuggly limelight,
The twinkle of ecstasy I absorb from drama and art,
Though simply a quilt to help pass the night,
I know each entwined thread is forever ingrained in my heart.

Very evocative of emotions and sensations.  I loved how the imagery always circled back to family and friends and feeling safe.  Enjoyed the poem!
