A Crevice in Concrete

October 2, 2007
By Anonymous

The night shrinks away,
Leaving only a remnant of its blackness,
In a shimmering puddle of jet ink,
Spilling from a crack onto the sidewalk.
I bend low to observe a colony of ants,
Confined to its miniature world,
Unaware of any domains
Beyond their crevice in concrete.
I tilt my head back and stare skyward
Into the endless depths of dawn.
Perhaps the world we know now
Is merely a crack in the sidewalk.
