I Love You Dad
I walk out the door, suitcase in each hand.
As I situate my belongings in my mother’s car
I look to see him silent, trying to hold in the tears
I walk up to him, my arms stretched out.
He hugs me tightly
I can feel the pulse of his heart.
The scent of his calone
I can hear the sadness in his voice.
A hard lump forms in my throat, begging to cry out,
I try to hold it in.
As he still holds me the tears begin to fall,
He says to me “I love you and ill miss you very much”
As his bear like clutch disassembles from me,
I walk towards the car trying not to look back,
As I open the door I look to him and say “I love you too, ill be back to visit I’ll see you soon.”
As we make our way down the road I look back to see him,
He’s crouched on his knees his face in his hands
I wave to him and say (whisper)
“I love you dad”
