5 ½ years of goin’ downhill
I’ve done my time, I’ve had my fill
You say you’re sorry for everything
But I don’t know what to believe
Endless chapters, page after page
Where all I knew was pain
You’ll never understand it
Or begin to comprehend it
You broke my spirit, the best of me
And all you have to say is sorry
That’s not good enough, you need to prove
You mean what you say, that you’ll stay true
You lost my trust long ago
When you taught me things I shouldn’t know
Don’t try to lie, proof lies on my skin
Look a little deeper and you’ll see it within
Don’t try to justify
What you know isn’t right
You’re caught red-handed, now give it up
It’s time to say enough is enough
But no matter how much you change, or if you ever do
After effects take wing from the things you put me through
I’m still scared to death and paranoid
Nothing there to fill the void
I’ll still have nightmares every night
Of all the futile fights
I’ll still be that quiet girl that barely spoke a word
You completely destroyed her world
5 ½ years are hard to replace
5 ½ years are hard to erase
So for once can you say what you mean?
‘Cause all I want is a new beginning
