When I was born

When I was first born,
I didn’t cry and my eyes were wide open.

At two,
My dad was my hero.

By the time I hit six,
All the boys on my block were my soul mates.

When I was twelve,
I wanted to look seventeen.

Right now,
I feel like I’m waiting for life to begin.

Everybody thinks,
I’m a quiet girl.

But really,
I’m funny and quick-witted.

When I’m twenty-five,
I want to be married and successful.

When I’m in charge,
I’ll be my children’s hero,
Just like dad.
