Can this be the girl who once I loved

Whom in my youth I saw as the sun?

Her tears the rain,

And her sleeping, soothing face the moon -

The maiden who lifted me from the earth

To within arms reach of heaven -

Is this the girl in whose eyes I drowned my worries?

Is it the girl in whose smile I found sanctuary

And in whose arms love like lightning flew into my spirit?

This cannot be, for the one I see before me

Holds a light in her hands that will not warm me,

For in my absence my candle has melted all away -

From the heat of the torch of another
