Sweet Delicious
In my mother’s kitchen lays a wooden spoon
Sitting and waiting to stir together ingredients
Cinnamon and sugar waiting to mix with the piles on flour
Standing as tall and majestic as mount Olympus
Mother makes the shape of a volcano in the flour
Gently, she sifts in the cinnamon and sugar
It is snow falling on the volcano
And inside she drops two eggs
The spoon will not be used today
For hands are a much better tool
Mom kneads and kneads until the ingredients become a dough
Cut it into beautiful shapes to make those special cookies
She looks up smiling at my brother
And he waits eagerly for the scent of fresh cookies to fill in throughout the air
Whenever they are done, we can finally dive into them
Warm centers and sweet deliciousness await us
There’s the oven Beep! Beep! Beep! warning us that they are ready
In my mother’s kitchen wonderful things are made
