   She stands tall and silent.

Her gangly form stretches

deep within the earth.

The wind brings her, shivering, to life.

She is permitted to sway,

to view her loyal subjects.



The post-summer air flirtatiously

ruffles her crisping leaves.

She giggles breathlessly and sighs.

And waits for the rain.
