What Lies Beneath A Smile?

I have always wondered,
Always thought,
Always asked myself,
What lies beneath a smile?
Does one smile when they are,
Happy?
Or to hide what lies beneath?
Does one smile to hide pain,
Sorrow,
Solitude?
What lies beneath a smile?
Does it reach your eyes?
Does it enter your heart?
Does it come from your soul?
Or it just a mask?
A mask to hide your true feelings.
How often does one wear this mask?
Do they take it off?
Do they reveal themselves to anyone?
Anyone at all?
Who can truely smile,
Truely laugh,
With no cares?
None at all.
So please tell me.
When you smile,
What lies beneath it?
What lies beneath a smile?
