The Kid In ME
I let my legs pump the pedals faster as I race
Race against my foe, nemesis, sibling, brother.
We let out jeers and screams of joy in our child's moment
And let the wind carry us farther on our metal monsters
That are almost as big as we are.
I screech like a child, even though
I am almost fully grown.
We hear the trickling of a stream and the both of us
Leap swiftly from our bikes.
Well, at least my brother does.
I instead launch from my bike and catch a face of dirt
And scrape my face
And scrape my arms
And scrape my leg
And my pants
My shirt
Jacket.
"What a rush!" I yell and pop back up
Not crying a tear
Or uttering a cry.
I pick my bike back up, fix the twisted wheel
And race my brother back home.
