I Lost My Chance
You asked if I loved you
I stand there speechless at what you said
And you just left the room,
Without uttering another word
I walked to the closed door where you stood day after day
And each day I could have told you what I’ve always felt
but I lost my chance
I placed both hands against the door
And imagine that it was your hands that I was feeling
And that spark was still there
I simply whisper
“Of course I love you”
As a perfect tear rolls down my cheek
And splatters across the floor
Just as my heart did when you walked out that door
Into a place where you and me don’t exist.
