miss claireremembers a time when
love and hate were
clear and sharp
andeverything in between
was hazy to the point
ofnonexistence
miss claire remembers a time when
compassionwas
strong and wiry
and envy
a fat crippled being
left toconsume itself in
searing blue-white flames
and when i
theomniscient teenager
frown at her nonsenseand
belligerently
demand explanations
miss claire smilesher
gentle young old woman smile
and whispers that one day
i,too, will remember
