Purple
Darkened grapes and darker plums were
All along the sides of the road.
The distant sun peeked over the horizon with
Wisps of lavender and streaks of indigo lighting the sky.
Our footsteps on the pavement below us were muted,
The sunlight casting a soft, dusky glow on the road.
People around us were so loud that their laughter
Could have awoken any of the sleeping houses nearby, but somehow
It felt like it was just you and I walking alone, hand in hand.
Our fingertips were numb and our lips a deep violet from the cold,
But we couldn’t care less.
We stared off into the distance and memorized every detail,
Our thoughts colored with shades of purple.
