I.

in this vacant dark
one girl, saturated
laced with love
bittersweet desire.

II.

she whispers
"imagine aluminum"
as he sleeps, silent
with a face not unlike
peace drifting down
the rippled river, calm.

III.

he wakes to teacups
slanted shades and silver
soft melody floating
breaks the still and shatters.


IV.

early morning papers
leftovers, yesterday's treasures
he follows the trail
winding up around the mountain
meets her there
beneath the willow teardrops.

V.

silence like a fog, and
"cheap plastic sunrise"
he says, and she nods
presses her smile to his
snips off a lock of his hair
buries it deep in her pocket
"for better days" she says
as the breeze carries her love
into the abyss.
