Where I'm from
I am from a radio
from computers and TV’s
I am from the brick house
and the fruity scent
I am from the tomato and pumpkin vines
The Chinese Cherry Tree
whose long gone limbs I remember
as if they were my own.
I’m from Engineers and Lawyers
from mom and dad
I’m from cooking and talking
and from hugs and kisses
I’m from ‘don't forget to feed your cat’ and ‘share with your younger brothers’
and Morning has Broken
I’m from celebrating 70th birthdays
I’m from Ohio and Trinidad
Mangos and Roti
From Granddad and Tea
The little boy who pestered and begged, and when he finally got his wish, regretted it.
I’m from smiles and laughter
inside my memory.
I know that’s where I’m from.
