One Drink

I knew it was wrong,
But everyone else was doing it.
They told me nothing bad would happen.
If I drank a beer or two.
So I pressed my lips to the can.
I drank all of it.
I hadn't planned on drinking another beer,
but one beer turned into two, than three beers.
I should've called my mom to come get me,
But I didn't.
Instead I got behind the wheel.
I must have blacked out.
Since I don't remeber running that red light,
But they told me I did.
So it must have happened,
But when they said my car had hit a bus full of kids back from a field trip.
I couldn't believe it.
Even though I'm behind bars for manslaughter.
I still couldn't believe I'd killed three kids.
Or that I injured several more.
And it could have been prevented.
If I had only decided....
Not to drink and drive.

This poem is about what could happen if you drink and drive. Don't be selfesh by drinking and driving. You could hurt innocent people.

Interesting. It could use a few more poetic devices, but I like the way you phrased everything and how the poem has a bittersweet rhythm to it. Nice work!
