They Kept Driving
They Kept Driving
I crawled slowly and painfully
Making my way from the deep, dirty ditch
Trying to make it to the highway that could be my savior
My body was covered with scrapes and bruises
From head to toe, dirt caressed my fair skin
Tears slowly dripped from my face to the cold ground
I heard the tires from a distant vehicle run over the pavement
I saw the headlights and reached up
I tried to scream, but my dry throat only let out a rough nothing
As the car passes I looked at the driver
I saw his head turn to look at me
His eyes met mine
The car passed by
The car kept driving
The car left me
