I am from wooden stools.
From 70’s green countertops and floral furniture.
I am from the humid hot air.
I am from the roses running up windows.
I am from “good southern food” and freckles.
From mema Pat and the Stone and Heier.
I am from the corny personalities and proper upbringing.
From “Never depend on a man” and “Money doesn’t grow on trees.”
I am from pretending to go to church Sundays.
To not remembering the last time I had faith.
I am from the hospital my aunt works at, macaroni and cheese and corn bread.
From the “old way of doing things” with grandpa, the patience of hunting with dad.
I am from ancient albums and the revolving clicks we hear to see them.
