The air is sticky and hot,
Every runner's stomach is tied in a knot.
The starting runner stretches on his block,
He wishes he can get a good time on the clock.

The man is ready to shoot his gun,
He shoots it and all the runners are ready to run.
They all run as fast as they can,
They want to prove that they are the fastest man.

The runner passes the baton to the second leg,
He hopes he doesn't drop it as he prays and begs.
The second leg tries to give it to the third leg fast,
If he loses the lead they'll probably come in last.

The third leg takes it and runs for his life,
He's running away like he's being chased by a knife.
He tries to pass it on to the anchor's hand on time,
The anchor yanks it and runs like he committed a crime.

He sprints as fast as he can at full speed,
They want to win and that's all they need.
The anchor makes his last stride in an effort to win,
He crosses the line and wins by a chin.
