i pronounced it wrong,
never believing that a treaty
would neither treat nor aid
expecting professor to scribble one
line
perhaps a few words
like scrabble

i pronounced it wrong,
he pronounced it correctly, according to
rules of english and
germany’s misfortune was spilled out in pen blue words of human falling and lives crashing
with periods and stars and more pen blue,
ending a war, sparking another, wrecking ball destruction, aimless pain

english will have its say
history, its books

treaty of versailles
will always be pronounced wrong,
like acid, like misfortune,
like hell.

I love how you write. The imagery is beautiful and I love it! Could you write more?

The France wanted "peaceful revenge" and therefor charged Germany for ever civilian they killed and every factory they destroyed. The British wanted moderation this resulted in a treaty that didn't compete split up Germany so that it would never be able to fight again but did tax it enough to competey destroy its infrastructure causing it to come back angry

Yeah it was. It pretty much crucified Germany and cut down all industry/agriculture/life, and this kind of set germany desperate for a new leader, anyone, like hitler.

This is very touching... i like how you describe how the treaty neither 'treated nor aided' because that is what happened.... this treaty is the one that set the grounwork for ww11, right?
