Haunted

Whispers coming from the past,
Haunting,
The future,
What are they telling us,
What is it they want,
Will they haunt me forever,
I understand what I should have done,
Answers given to me,
Why follow,
Who knew the consequence,
I chose not to abide,
Now my punishment has come,
Each step is a sharp pain,
through every muscle,
There are no scratches,
No bruises or scabs,
A band-aid cannot protect this,
No aspirin nor Advil can help,
Turn around the order of events,
Cheat death just once,
That still cannot help,
It was time.
