If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.

If they gunned me down
And left me lying in the street,
I pray all the world would see
My blood stain the concrete.
If they gunned me down
I hope the killer will be void of all praise.
’Cause if they glorify my shooter
I’ll twist and turn in my grave.
If they gunned me down
How would the media portray me?
Would they call me a scholar
Or tarnish my image and slay me?
Would they call me a thug?
Would they say that I deserved it?
Would they speak on my school attendance?
Because I know it isn’t perfect.
Even though I was the prey
Would they treat me like the predator?
Would they pull a Fox News
And assassinate my character?
If they gunned me down
How long would I stay relevant?
How long would protesters
Continue to act malevolent?
Would Reverend Al give support?
Would Jesse Jackson stop by?
Would there be anyone there
To wipe my mother’s eyes dry?
It really wouldn’t matter
If there were witnesses around.
I just pray I get justice
In the event they gun me down.

A poem expressing how the media will make victims of police violence seem like criminals instead of victims.
