“Home Alone” was an intriguing memoir written by Ronnie Maryash. Ronnie shared her experience of someone breaking into her home when she was alone with her sister, Rachel. She shared what happened, the outcome, and her feelings about the event as well. “Home Alone” was a beautifully crafted piece, especially because of its balance of realism that a memoir should have and the tension Ronnie’s description of the event that was brought to the piece.
I especially loved the composition because of how Ronnie was able to make something good out of the situation. She mentioned the experience was traumatizing, yet it brought her and her sister closer together. She said, “The intruder may have callously broken our window, but he mended our relationship.” This showed how she was able to bring light to a dark situation and write about it in a way that made the readers feel both sorry for her but grateful for the long-term effect it had.
