“Fire Poem” by Shalom Gohlson is a poem that left me with goose bumps. This is such an emotional poem that each word made me even more hooked.  This poem expresses the idea of fire and the way it suffocates a person. The smoke from the fire takes a person’s oxygen and life. I can relate to this poem because I, too, have experienced the damage of fire.

The line “My lungs wheeze, trying to suck the last bit of oxygen” left me with chills in my body. This line made me feel the oxygen escaping and trying my best to gasp for air. The strength of the words seemed to tear me apart as I felt the emotions and pain inside. This feeling left me with bitterness in my heart.
