“We Changed” by Ashley Zheng is a beautiful and heartbreaking piece. It describes Ashley’s emotions through meeting with her old friends from middle school, and how her high expectations for the memories she held onto were far from reality. The piece is written so gracefully, and tugs at the heartstrings. I feel like Ashley wrote about her issue in a really mature way.

As I was reading “We Changed,” I found that it resonated with me in many ways, and I know that it would be very relatable to others like me. As a middle schooler, I feel like many of my friends and relationships in general are going into separate paths, and it’s hard to let go so easily. Ashley wrote, “I tried to pretend that we were still connected, that we still had a chance. But I knew. What we once shared had ended…” This quote captures the essence of her piece, and embodies the thoughts of those who have had similar experiences. Overall, I found it truly amazing.
