While reading “Collage Family” by Alyssa Frontier, I had a sense of relatableness. If that’s even a word. My family is a work of art patched together, yet I wouldn’t trade my family for the world. When Alyssa wrote, “Surrounded by my family is my happy place,” I feel the exact same way. How my grandpa and I go out for dinner after every tennis match, and my mom and I never knowing the words to songs, yet singing anyway. In those moments I’m the happiest person alive. Did my parents divorce? Yes. Did my mom remarry and have another daughter? Yes. Did my parents end up remarrying? Yes. Is this normal? Most would say no, but I believe God made my family this way for a reason. “I no longer look back in anger at how upset I felt about not having a ‘normal’ family,” when I read this line Alyssa wrote, I couldn’t relate to something more. I can’t believe I used to be angry over my family and not being a ‘cookiecutter’ family, because I love my family.
