"Did You Hear About..." This work has been published in the Teen Ink monthly print magazine.

"Katie! You'll never guess what just happened!"

"Hey, calm down. You're really happy about something, Heather. What's up?"

"Well, you know that sophomore in the band, the one I've liked for a while? He just asked me to go to the movies Friday night!"

"That's great! Is it okay if I tell Melanie the good news?"

"Here comes Mel now, but I better go or I'll be late to gym. I'll call you later."

"Mel, Hi! How are you?"

"Great, Katie. What's up?"

"Heather asked some sophomore in the band to the movies Saturday night."

"Really? I got to tell Ally this. See ya!"

"Ally, there you are, I was looking for you. Heather asked a senior in the band to the movies."

"A senior!? Wow! Are you sure she asked him, Mel?"

"That's what Katie told me."

"Boy, Leslie will be jealous, she liked a senior too. Maybe it's the same one. I'll go find Leslie and tell her."

"Hey, Leslie! Guess what? Heather asked out every senior band-member to the movies. I bet she asked the guy you like too."

"I'm going to kill her if she did. Gotta go, see ya at lunch."

"Hi, Leslie! How's it going?"

"Okay, I guess. Heather's going out with all the senior guys, even the one I like!"

"Wait a minute, Leslie! That can't be true."

"I don't know. That's what Ally said."

"Did you all hear about Heather!"

"No, what happened? Did she break up with that sophomore in the band?"

"What are you talking about, Katie?"

"What do you mean, Ally? Didn't Heather tell you?"

"Well, I didn't think she was going out with a sophomore. Mel told me she was going out with all the senior guys."

"Ally! You know Heather isn't like THAT!"

"Well, Melanie, you never know, she could be."

"Ya, but I highly doubt it."

"Shh! Here she comes. Don't say anything about our little mix-up."

"You messed it up, not me!"

"Oh, shut up, Kellera!"

"Hi Heather! How's life?"

"Great, never been better! That guy I'm going out with is so sweet. You'll never believe what he told me ..."

"No, please no more gossip."

"No gossip? I never thought I'd hear you say that."

"That's right. We've had enough for today."

"You guys act like you're scared of gossip."

"Well, I guess you could say that, Heather." n

Very true, I love how this shows the way gossip gets spread in dialogue.
