“Kingdom Hearts 2” is an action-adventure, role-playing game created by Square Enix and Disney. The game utilizes well-known characters from Disney movies and cartoons and Square's extremely popular video game series, “Final Fantasy.”

The plot follows 15-year-old Sora who is looking for his friends, Riku and Kairi. He is aided by Donald Duck and Goofy, who are officials of a kingdom ruled by King Mickey and Queen Minnie.

On his journey, Sora learn about an evil entity, Xemnas. In the first game, Sora, Donald, and Goofy defeat the antagonist, but they are unaware of his byproduct, called Xemnas. Xemnas is trying to harness the immense power of a collection of hearts, known as Kingdom Hearts.

The main structure of gameplay consists of Sora and his friends traveling to different universes in their Gummi Ship. In each universe, the player then plays a re-creation of a Disney movie, with Sora, Donald, and Goofy as the movie's main characters. For instance, in Agrabah, the location of “Aladdin,” Sora takes Aladdin's place to fight Jafar.

During battle, Sora can call on any ally he has met in any of the universes. He can also use techniques called limits, which allow him and one of his battle partners to perform a very powerful attack. These often turn the tide of battle. His weapon, the “keyblade,” is used to lock up the worlds he visits from invading bad guys. He can perform myriad attacks with his keyblade, which can be upgraded.

As far as sound goes, “Kingdom Hearts 2” is hard to beat. The music while traversing each environment is fun and easy to listen to. The battle music is intense and serious.

However, the dialogue in the game is below par. Some of the more serious characters are given generic and sometimes flat-out awful dialogue. This makes the game seem like little effort was put into character development. The sound effects are very good and the syncing of sound is fine.

In terms of graphics, “Kingdom Hearts 2” is extravagant. All character models are extremely detailed. During cut scenes, the characters' mouths move with superb detail. During gameplay, however, their mouths move in an unsynchronized, up-and-down fashion. During the major cut scenes, everything is extremely detailed. When someone is hit, his hair moves with his body. The graphics are very impressive.

“Kingdom Hearts 2” has good sound, awesome graphics, a captivating story, and overall a good presentation. If more detail had been paid to the environments, the game would feel more complete, and not as though the designers had cut corners. This game is good for fans of Disney and Final Fantasy. I highly recommend it.

I agree wholeheartedly with the comment on the dialogue. Although I do disagree on the "captivating storyline" bit. Don't get me wrong, I played KH2 first, and that's what got me into KH1 and Re:CoM. But after experiencing the first two and going back to play the second, I just couldn't do it. I couldn't get through it again.

Roxas, honestly, was the most interesting part of the entire game. I was so disappointed when I was forced to move on to Sora. His story was so tragic, and Sora's in comparison was lackluster. That's why I was ecstatic when the DS game came out centering around his time in Organization XIII, I believe it's called 358/2 Days? (Although now that I've played that, I absolutely despise Xion, who was a major character. Sad day.)

So while I would recommend KH2 as an introduction to the series if you can't find the first one, I would not recommend it if you want a story and characters to motivate you. I honestly couldn't stand Sora the second time through, as he was an annoyingly upbeat and naive character. Kairi was irritating, and Riku was just your typical "dark and mysterious" type.

Hey, i think RedEyes is justified in saying that this review was lacking. I too felt that it needed more discussion of the game's content and the plot, despite its overall good quality. Besides, the game series has an ENORMOUS fan-base, so many people are going to be dissatisfied with the exclusion of Organization XIII, they are essential to the world of Kingdom Hearts, not to mention the fan-base.

Actually, I didn't find the plot confusing at al. It was very simple. I played this game when I was little. Pretty simple but it made sense. I think its better than mindless violence that you get in games like Halo or Gears of War.

KHII is probably one of my favorite games of all-time, and I have to agree with you on every single point you made in the review. Particularly about the dialouge being 'off'.

My only wish is that the graphics that were used for the beginning and ending cutscenes were utilized throughout the entire game, but I guess that would have made the game run much slower. And it also probably would have taken Square-Enix an extra few years to get it to us.

Kingdom hearts 1 was way harder. Also not only was Xemnas not the only evil entity but he was the only one who pretty much stayed out of Sora's way until the end.

Wow, 1 star, for only 2 things? First of all, the point of the game is to DEFEAT XEMNAS. HE'S THE ONE WHO WANTS TO USE KINGDOM HEARTS FOR EVIL. The second is just nitpicking. The fact that I called them universes is COMPLETELY UNRELATED TO THE GAME. Who cares if they're called worlds or universes? I'm sorry that you pay such close attention to such little details that hardly mean anything to this review, of which the point being is to provide a unique perspective on a video game.

"Oh, bubble trumps."

You didn't even mention Organization XIII, the true evil in this game... Though Xemnas IS the leader, he isn't the only "evil entity". Also, they aren't universes; they're worlds! Sorry... I'm a Kingdom Hearts mega-fangirl/otaku... I notice things like this.
