"Mariah Carey" moved to the top twenty of Billboard's charts within four weeks; few records have ever done this. Mariah Carey's self-titled debut features two hit songs, "Vision of Love," and "Love Takes Time." Both have reached the number one position. The rest of the songs on this album are great, too. These include, "All Alone in Love," "Prisoner," "Vanishing" and "There's Got to be a Way." Mariah must have thought these lyrics through, because they have depth and originality, which are rare in newer releases. Her promotional appearances on "Arsenio Hall" and "Saturday Night Live" paid off, because her album is now platinum, with no end to her popularity in sight. Overall, this album is getting all it deserves. I recommend four stars for "Mariah Carey." HHHH n
