Twilight

The movie adaptation of the bestseller Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer, raised an astonishing $69.6 million since its premiere on Friday, November 21, 2008. This film has caused much controversy among devoted fans, and new-comers alike. Many fans of the book are worried that the movie will not live up to the book’s version of this exceptional love story between two people who know that they cannot be together, yet cannot live without one another.

When Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) moves to a new town and meets Edward Cullen (Rob Pattinson) the two cannot deny the instantaneous attraction they have for one another. Throughout this action-packed, love-filled movie the two find out just how strongly they are bonded. Edward’s love for Bella is put to the test when a group of nomadic vampires threaten to end her life. Edward is faced with the many choices of how to save her.

Twilight lives up to its reputation not because of its incredible special effects, but because of the astounding way that the whole cast portrays their characters. Rob Pattinson is so convincing as a vampire that it is hard to drag one’s self from this fantasy world just to realize that he is a regular human just like any of us. It is the actor’s job to be as convincing as possible, but there is no denying the noticeable chemistry that lingers between Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

I would recommend this movie to anyone who is a fan of the saga, or not. When reading a book, a lot is left to the individual’s imagination, however, I feel that this movie has captured the very essence of the book, just as writer Stephenie Meyer meant. Of course, the movie will not be a carbon copy of the book, because a nearly 500 page novel cannot be condensed into a movie with a length of two hours and ten minutes without having to leave out some minor details. Even though this is the case, the main points of the book were incorporated into the movie and I, as well as many other devoted fans, are happy with the way the movie ended.
